Shutdown of factory draws ire of workers
Warangal: The sudden shutdown of Mahalakshmi Cottonseed Oil Industries located on the suburbs of Warangal invited protests from its employees.
The workers staged a protest in front of the office on Wednesday accusing the management of closing the industry abruptly. It's learnt that the management had announced shut down of the factory claiming that it had gone bankrupt.
The employees alleged that the management informed them about the closure just a day before. Further, they contended that according to labour acts, management has to give notice of closure three months before.
Raju Goud, an employee, said there are 120 permanent employees in the oil extracting unit and another 130 work on a daily wage basis. The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) leaders, who extended their support to the employees and joined the protest.
Meanwhile, the factory management said that it had to shut down the unit due to the financial crisis. There may be a possibility of reopening the unit in October if the financial situation improves, the management said.
