Siddipet: A farmer, Kasula Kishtaiah from Mitta Palli village, attempted suicide at the urban tahsildar's office on Wednesday. He alleged that his land records had been tampered with. He came to the office, carrying petrol bottle and staged a protest. He tried to kill himself alleging that the tahsildar was doing injustice to him. However the attempt was foiled by the police.

When asked, the tahasildar said that the government had given two acres of land in Survey No 308 in Mittapalli suburb to Kasula Kishtaiah in 1975, but he sold it to Krishna Murthy of Siddipet in 2012. When we came to know about this, notices were issued to both the buyers and sellers, he said. The tahasildar said the land would be taken over soon.

Harish asks Collector to probe incident

Finance Minister T Harish Rao, responding immediately to the suicide attempt by the farmer, called up District Collector P Venkatrama Reddy and ordered him to inquire into the matter.

The minister directed him to address the farmer's issue immediately and see that the land records issue was resolved. The farmers in all offices in the district should be honored, their problems should be listened to and resolved at the earliest, Rao said. He asked tahsildars not to bother anyone and to maintain good relations with people.
