Six women from Telangana who won UN's Equator Prize denied visa
Six women from Deccan Development Society (DDS) who have bagged the United Nation's Equator Prize for 2019 were denied Visa. The women are supposed to take the award at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) between September 19 and 26.
The women from the society have been selected as 'an outstanding example of a local, nature-based solution to climate change and sustainable development.' Among the six, majority of them are Dalits, they are Maisanagari Ratnamma, Begari Tuljamma, Chilkapalli Ansuyamma, Nagwar Sunandamma, Yerrolla Kanakamma and Nadimidoddi Anjamma.
These six women have been building their own seed banks and growing millets in the rain-fed villages of Sangareddy.
"I thought of showcasing all the programmes being carried out to preserve the environment. I was upset after being denied Visa," said Anasuyamma, president of the society.
