South-west monsoon arrives in Telangana

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the south-west monsoon winds have reached Telangana and are likely to spread throughout the state in the next 24 hours.

Dr K Nagaratna, director of IMD said that the monsoon hit Telangana on Thursday morning making it onset in Nizamabad, Ramagundam and Peddaplli districts. The monsoon will cover all the districts by Friday, she added. This monsoon, the state will receive bountiful rain and in the next two days, few regions will receive extremely heavy rainfall of above 20 cm while some places witness moderate to heavy rainfall between 7 cm and 20 cm and the remaining areas would get a light to moderate rainfall.

Due to the pressure, the state witnessed rainfall on Tuesday evening and is continued till Thursday morning. Low lying areas in the city were flooded with rainwater and roads were also inundated. On the other hand, a few areas in the city seen incidents such as uprooting of trees and power outages.

Bhongir of Yadadri district witnessed the highest rainfall of 19 cm as of 8.30 am on Thursday, according to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS). While the other districts like Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Warangal Urban, Adilabad, Khammam, and Jangaon recorded 10 cm of rainfall followed by Hyderabad and Abdullapurmet which recorded 9 cm of rainfall each.
