Speed governors mandatory for transport vehicles
Hyderabad: State government on Thursday made it mandatory for the transport vehicles manufactured after October 1, 2015 to get fit speed governors.
According to the transport department officials, the decision was taken in order to control the over speeding of transport vehicles.
The Centre had issued notification on April 15, 2015 mandating speed governors (speed limiting devices (SLD) or speed limiting functions (SLF)) to be fitted in different categories of transport vehicles other than three wheelers, quadricycles, fire tenders, ambulances and police vehicles.
The State government has asked the owners of the transport vehicles (other than two, three wheelers, quadricycles, fire tenders, Ambulances, police vehicles) to fit speed governors.
The vehicle owners should fit speed limiting devices approved by the transport commissioner.
For the approved list of speed governors manufactures/ dealers/ the officials have asked the owners to check the website (www.transport. telangana. gov.in) or contact the concerned regional transport offices. If the speed governors are fitted without the approval of transport commissioner, the department would not be held responsible for such devises.
Joint Transport Commissioner C Ramesh told The Hans India that the educational institution vehicles, the speed limit will be 60 kmph and for transport vehicles the speed limit should be 60 and 80 (for different categories).
He said there was no last date for the vehicles and the vehicle which comes for fitness test should get the speed governor fixed at the concerned RTA offices.
