SSC Public Examinations : Number of students studying in Urdu medium dwindling

Hyderabad: The number of students studying in Urdu medium at Secondary School Certificate (SSC) level is dwindling by the year.

According to the data of the Director of Government Examinations (DGE), the number of students who studied in Urdu medium, in the State during 2018 academic year was just 10,966. Urdu is the second official language of the State.

The number came down to 10,537 during the 2019 academic year. The pass percentage of the Urdu medium students was 73.04 in 2018 and 84.63 per cent in 2019.

Similarly, only 633 students studied in the other mediums like Hindi, Marathi, Kannada etc. The number of students appeared in the SSC public examinations 567 in 2019.

The pass percentage of the other medium students is a little over 82 per cent in both the academic years.

Contrary to this, a little over 1.7 lakh students in 2018 and 1.6 lakh students in 2019 appeared studied in Telugu medium. The pass percentages of the Telugu medium students are 75.37 and 89.32, in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

English medium has the highest number of students appearing in the SSC examinations.

Nearly 3.11 lakh students in 2018 and 3.27 lakh students in 2019 appeared in the SSC examinations scoring the highest pass percentage among the medium-wise students in both the academic years.

However, when it comes to the subject-wise pass percentages the students are scoring 98.11 per cent and above in the first, second and third languages in 2018 and 98.73 per cent and above in 2019.

Mathematics and General Science subjects are the lowest among the subject wise pass percentages.

While 88.37 per cent of students in 2018 and 96.13 per cent of students in 2019 passed in mathematics in the SSC.

In the case of General Science, the pass percentages are 92.25 and 95.88 in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

Students of social sciences registered a pass percentage of 98.43 in 2018 and 99.05 in 2019 SSC public examinations.
