State to receive 90,000 MT urea by Sept 12: Agriculture Minister

Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister S Niranjana Reddy on Sunday said that about 90,000 metric tons of urea will reach the State by September 12 for distribution to the farmers during the current Rabi season.

The Minister who reviewed supply and distribution of urea in the State here on Sunday said, "senior officials are continuously coordinating and monitoring the situation and additional vehicles are deployed to ensure adequate stock of urea reach the villages."

Niranjana Reddy said about 33,800 metric tons of urea has been distributed to the farmers as on September 7.

An additional 16,374 metric tons of stocks are in transit which will be reaching villages, he added.

That apart, 17,000 metric tons of urea lifted from different ports and through railway wagons from different States is expected to reach the village stock points by Monday night.

Another 14,000 metric tons urea is ready for loading and is expected to reach the State by September 12.

By road, 8,000 metric tons of urea is on the way. In all, the State will have 90,000 metric tons of urea by September 12. This will help in keeping additional stocks over and above the requirement.

He asked officials to take stringent action against the traders selling the urea at higher prices and ensure that the district agricultural officers monitor the urea stocks and distribution.

State Agriculture Principal Secretary C Parthasarathi, Additional Director Vijaya Kumar and other senior officials briefed the Minister on the steps being taken to ensure smooth supply and distribution of urea stocks.
