Steps to prevent incidents like Disha: Nizamabad Collector M Rammohan Rao
Nizamabad: District Collector M Rammohan Rao ordered the police officials to take appropriate measures to protect women from harassment and incidents like gruesome kidnap, rape and murder of Disha.
On Thursday, he held a meeting with Commissioner of Police Karthikeya and officials of other women departments. The Collector expressed deep sympathy to the family members of Disha. He assured that the government will take strong measures to prevent such tragedies from happening again and asked the women and girls not to get panic while in danger and to be alert and inform the police immediately.
Awareness programmes will be organised for the members of Women Health and Child Welfare Department, which is having over 2.5 lakh members. He told the women to dial 100 when they suspect danger or being threatened as soon as possible to get police protection. Collector Rao said protection of the people should not be considered as the responsibility of police department only but the people also must react in such moments and help the people in danger.
The Collector said that the rural police are also in charge of the villages under their jurisdiction. They are identifying unsecure and remote areas where there are chances for unlawful incidents to take place and implementing more security measures. He warned that it is illegal to drink alcohol in public places and parking vehicles on highways. According to the government orders, Zero FIR will be lodged with the complaints irrespective of the police station where the complaint is lodged. More patrolling will be taken up in troubled areas.
