Hyderabad: Telangana BJP demanded the State government and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to immediately end intimidating doctors and postgraduate medical students working by staking their lives in the line of duty to save Covid-affected people.

Addressing media here on Monday, State BJP president and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar has criticised the government for miserably failing in containing the spread of Covid in Telangana.

As if it was not enough, he said the official machinery is threatening the doctors for Covid tests against the backdrop of 70 doctors' tests turning out to be positive. Besides, it is blackmailing the postgraduate medical students, threatening, if they fail to perform their duties or raise their voices of concern, then, they will be failed in the postgraduate examinations."

He demanded to conduct tests to doctors working in all the departments of the hospitals in the State. He also asked to conduct tests for the family members wherever is needed.

"While doctors and PG medical students and other frontline warriors are protecting people, the State government has to protect them," he said.

Calling the Covid situation in the state is alarming, he accused the government of behaving irresponsibly for not conducting the tests and in extending necessary treatment to the people. The death toll of 14 people in a single day on Sunday exposes the alarming situation prevailing in Telangana, he said.

Also, the BJP MP said that the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) had given approval to 25 labs in the State to conduct Covid tests. The state can conduct as many as 15,000 tests per day. But, under the TRS government not even 500 tests are being conducted in a day for the last 90 days, he alleged

Shockingly, one ICMR approved lab in the city has been slapped with a criminal case for conducting the test and uploading the test results to the ICMR portal, he said.

The BJP leader said that it seems the state government is more concerned about its image than the well being of the people. Adding, "States like Punjab, Gujarat and others have been releasing district-wise status covering all the components like the number of tests, positive cases, critically ill, patients on ventilators, death toll etc on daily basis." But the Telangana state is the only exception in release health bulletins without covering such details. He demanded CM KCR to release a whitepaper on the Covid status in the State.

The BJP state chief also demanded KCR to tender an unconditional apology for using intemperate language towards the non-resident Gulf workers from the State and Vysya community. He asked the TRS chief not to forget his own past and use insulting language towards the poor families of the non-resident Gulf workers struggling in their lives. Similarly, he questioned whether there is any bar on Vysyas or monopoly for some, in establishing or starting rice mills in the State.
