Sunil Rao elected as Karimnagar Municipal Corporation Mayor

Karimnagar: The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) on Wednesday elected Y Sunil Rao as the city Mayor of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Challa Swarupa Rani as the Deputy Mayor unanimously.

The election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor was held after the newly elected corporators took oath of office at KMC at 12.30 pm on the day. Out of the 60 divisions, the TRS won 33 divisions, more than the quorum required to take up the election process.

Corporator Kalasala Srinivas proposed Y Sunil Rao's name for the Mayor post and Arsha Kiranmayi supported, while Jangili Ailnder Yadav proposed Challa Swarupa Rani's name for the post of Deputy Mayor which was supported by Sudagoni Madhavi.

As there were no other members in competition, Joint Collector Shyam Prasad Lal announced the names of Y Sunil Rao as the Mayor and Ch Swarupa Rani as the Deputy Mayor of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation.

It is to be noted here that the ruling party won 33 divisions and with joining of seven independents into the TRS, its strength has been increased to 40 in the house. BJP won 13 divisions and MIM party won in six divisions.

BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar along with MLA Rasamayi Balakishan and MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao participated in the meeting as ex-officio members, thus increasing the strength of the TRS in KMC to 43 and the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor was concluded without any obstacles.
