Nereducherla (Suryapet): Amid high drama, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi hoisted its flag on Nereducherla municipality by grabbing the chairperson and vice-chairperson posts in the election held on Tuesday.

The election officials allowed all the winning councillors of both the TRS and the Congress and their ex-officio members and CPM candidate for election of chairperson and vice-chairperson posts. In 15 wards of Nereducherla municipality, the Congress along with its alliance partner CPM won eight wards, where as ruling TRS won seven wards.

On behalf of Congress, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Rajya Sabha member KVP Ramachandra Rao registered their names as ex-officio voters and on behalf of TRS, Rajya Sabha member Badugula Lingaiah Yadav, MLC Bodekanti Venkateshwarlu and local MLA Shanampudi Saidi Reddy registered their names under ex-officio members at Nereducherla municipality by Monday. However, the election officials postponed the election to Tuesday due to ruckus by both the Congress and the TRS councillors.

when the officials concerned commenced the election process for chairperson and vice-chairperson posts, the Congress councillors demanded the election officials to conduct the election as per the voters' list of Monday and raised objection over adding TRS MLC Sheri Subash Reddy's name in the voters list, but in vain.

Expressing their angst over officials' favouring the ruling TRS, Nalgonda MP Uttam Kumar Reddy along with MP KVP Ramachandra Rao and Congress councillors boycotted the election and officials continued the election process with TRS voters in the name of satisfying the quorum.

TRS councilors and ex-officio members elected Chandamalla Jayababu as chairperson and Challa Srilatha as vice-chairperson of Nereducherla municipality.

Meanwhile, expressing angst over violation during the election process, Uttam Kumar Reddy along with the Congress MP and councillors staged a protest on the Huzurnagar-Nereducherla road and raised slogans against Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and election officials. The police caned the Congress workers to control the situation after the arrest and shifting of both Uttam and KVP to Miryalaguda police station.

Speaking to the media, Uttam fired salvos on TRS and officials over pink party's hungry for power and backdoor politics to snatch the chairperson and vice-chairperson posts of the Nereducherla municipality and accused the State Election Commission of working as TRS agent.

Meanwhile, Huzurnagar MLA Shanampudi Saidi Reddy, addressing the media, defended the whole election process and congratulated the newly-elected municipal chiefs. He asserted that Nereducherla town was going to witness a lot of development in the forthcoming days under the leadership of newly-elected civic body chiefs.
