Suryapet: Noted industrialist-turned-politician Meela Satyanarayana (78) passed away at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Tuesday. He was well known as Meela in political circles.

Satyanarayana had setup Sudhakar PVC Pipes Industry in 1971 in Suryapet in united Andhra Pradesh. He had also served as municipal chairman of Suryapet for two terms ie 1989-92 and 2006-10 and was chairman and founder of Sudha Co-Operative Urban Bank Limited, Suryapet.

The body of Meela Satyanarayana was brought to his house at Suryapet from Hyderabad by his family members. Even though Meela was associated with the Congress party, he appreciated Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on several occasions for providing 24X7 power supply to the farming sector for free in the State. He had explained how the industries had faced power cuts problem in united Andhra Pradesh in several meetings. As a municipal chairman He developed Suryapet town in all aspects and received several awards, including Vijayaratna and Small Scale Entrepreneur Award. Meanwhile, Minister For Education G Jagadish Reddy expressed shock over the demise of Meela and remembered his association with him.

He said Meela Satyanarayana was an icon of Suryapet and his contribution to the society was laudable.

Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy expressed his deep condolences to the members of the bereaved family.
