Suryapet: Shun paddy farming, take up other crops instead, farmers told

Gaddipally (Suryapet): Minister for Agriculture Singireddy Niranjan Reddy stated that it was the duty of every person to save the earth from pressing issues like climate change, global warming, forest fires etc.

He along with Minister for Energy G Jagadish Reddy took part in a programme held on the occasion of World Soil Day at Krushi Vignana Kendram located at Gaddipally village of Garidepally mandal in the district on Thursday.

Addressing the gathering, Singireddy informed that so far all researches confirmed that earth was the only planet suitable for human living. Stating that humans have created many alternatives for many things but failed to create an alternative for food, which he said was impossible too.

"Land is providing employment to 55 to 60 per cent population in the country," he added, advising the youth to think about farming instead of running after the government jobs. He informed that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has been taking several measures to save the farming sector and farmers in the State.

The Agriculture Minister listed out the State government schemes implemented for the welfare of framers including the Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, mechanisation of farming etc.

He advised the farmers to think about other crops other than paddy and advised them to cultivate such crops which cater to the needs of people of nearest places.

He appreciated Ganta Gopal Reddy for the establishment of Krushi Vignana Kendram at Gaddipally and assured to establish Agriculture Polytechnics at Gaddipally and Dindi in erstwhile Nalgonda district. Minister Jagadish Reddy, in his speech, expressed his concern over the killing of nature of the soil by using the pesticides in large amounts than required.

He advised the farmers not to fire the farms after getting the yield from crops which will decrease the quality of land.

The duo Ministers inaugurated the Seed Cleaning Centre established on the premises of Krushi Vignana Kendram on the day. District Collector Amoy Kumar , Huzurnagar MLA Shanmapudi Saidi Reddy, officials and farmers attended the programme.
