Update: 2020-05-27 01:15 IST

Hyderabad: Coronavirus cases are rising every day in the country but the big relief is the low death rate. According to experts, the death rate in coronavirus is lesser when compared to swine flu. If we consider 2019 figures in the country, 1218 persons died from the 28, 798 persons who were infected by the H1N1 virus. This is roughly 4.22 per cent death rate. If we look at 2018 figures, 1,128 persons died from among 15,266 infected patients and the death rate comes to 7.38 percent.

Compare this with the present coronavirus situation in the country. Nearly 1.39 lakh people were found to be infected with the virus while 4021 have died. The death rate comes to 2.89 percent which is less than swine flu death rate in 2018 and also in 2019 in the country. Dr Narahari, Associate Professor from Niloufer Hospital observed that the infection rate in coronavirus is high when compared to swine flu but the death rate is the opposite. The death rate is high in swine flu compared to corona, he pointed out.

However, the Covid figures are upto May and we have to see how the total yearly figures turn out by the end of December, he adds.
