Swine flu scare haunts Musheerabad

Musheerabad: With two more cases of swine flu being diagnosed at the Bholakpur urban primary healthcare centre limits, the locals have expressed fears of its spread in the area.

The figure of swine flu reached four; last month two patients of swine flu from the same area died.

A woman from Bharat Nagar colony and a youth from Pathan Basti were recently diagnosed with the same disease.

Two are currently undergoing treatment in local private hospitals.

As a preventive measure, Bholakpur UPHC organised free medical camp at Bharat Nagar and Pathan Basti.

Free diagnostic tests were conducted, and medicines were given free of cost to patients.

On February 8, a woman from Babuji Nagar of Musheerabad division died of swine flu and within a span of one week, another person from Bakaram of Ramnagar division, diagnosed with swine flu, also died.

With the news that two more patients were diagnosed with the disease, there is widespread panic among the people of Musheerabad division.

Several people appealed to the officials to take effective preventive measures to contain the disease.

Awareness programmes and symptoms of the disease and need for cleanliness also need to be taken in the area, many averred.

Improper sewage systems, dumping of garbage in open areas and overflow of drainage water is seen in many colonies in Musheerabad division.

It is time the sanitation officials take necessary measures to address sewerage and open drainage issues in the colonies.

Some symptoms of the disease include fever, headache, body pains, throat pain, difficult in taking breath.

The patients with the above symptoms should consult the doctor immediately.

Persons with less immunity such as pregnant women, senior citizens and small children generally fall prey to the disease.

Dr Krishna Mohan, medical officer of Bholakpur UPHC, said that patients with the symptoms of Swine Flu should consult doctors immediately and take necessary measures such as covering their mouths with masks or kerchiefs while speaking or coughing.

It is advisable that they should stay away from high density areas and maintain personal hygiene and clean surroundings.
