Tamilisai takes oath as TS Governor

Hyderabad: Former BJP chief of Tamil Nadu Tamilisai Soundararajan was sworn in Governor of Telangana by High Court Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan at a simple ceremony at Raj Bhavan on Sunday.

The 58-year-old Tamilisai is the first woman Governor of Telangana. On September 1, President Ram Nath Kovind named her as the second Governor of Telangana. Earlier, the post was held by ESL Narasimhan, who subsequently demitted the office.

Interestingly, a large number of dignitaries, including All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu O Panneerselvam, also participated in the swearing-in ceremony.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his ministerial colleagues were present during the occasion. Chief Secretary SK Joshi presided over the ceremony.

He read out the warrant of appointment released by President Kovind before Tamilisai took oath. After taking oath as the Governor, Tamilisai came down towards the lawns and took blessings of her parents by touching their feet.

Earlier, she was received by the Chief Minister, Speaker P Srinivas Reddy, Ministers Eatala Rajender, E Dayakar Rao, Mayor B Rammohan and others at the Begumpet airport.

The VIPs who attended the ceremony include Himachal Pradesh Governor-designate Bandaru Dattatreya, Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy, Tamil Nadu Ministers SP Velumani, P Thangamani, D Jayakumar, Congress leader and MP A Revanth Reddy, Ministers KT Rama Rao, T Harish Rao, A Indrakaran Reddy, BJP general secretary P Muralidhar Rao and Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi leaders.
