Tax evasion: SC dismisses SLP
Hyderabad: The vacation bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Aniruddha Bose on Monday upheld the verdict pronounced by the Telangana High Court pertaining to GST tax evasion.
The division bench dismissed the special leave petition filed against High Court verdict. The judges observed that they were not inclined to interfere in the matter.
It may be recalled that the division bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Justice V Ramasubramanian and Justice P Keshava Rao had dismissed a batch of writ petitions seeking protection from arrest for alleged tax evasion.
The High Court held that the authorities against whom relief was sought were empowered by Section 69 of the GST Act to detain any person if he was believed to have committed a cognizable and non-bailable offence.
