Telangana: As many as 70 people were hospitalized after they fell sick, apparently after drinking contaminated water at Bhajana Thanda of Ayodya village of Mahabubabad district on Thursday. Of them, the condition of 10 people is said to be critical.

At present, all of them are undergoing treatment at the district general hospital in Mahabubabad. The incident was brought to the notice of the officials who sent the water samples for testing. Meanwhile, the healthcare officials sent up a medical camp in the village to conduct coronavirus tests on the seriously ill persons.

The incident left the villagers in panic in the wake of the new strain of coronavirus detected in UK and several districts in Telangana were alerted. Meanwhile, the healthcare officials are eyeing on the UK returnees in the districts like Karimnagar, Adilabad, Siddipet and Medchal.

In the last few days, around 1,200 people have arrived in the state from the United Kingdom and seven people were tested positive for the coronavirus. All those who tested positive belong to Hyderabad, Medchal, Jagtial, Siddipet and Warangal Urban districts. The officials collected their samples and sent to Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad for testing.
