CA, CS pattern shows way to failed Inter students

Hyderabad: At a time when the fate of 3,20,341 Inter students failed is hanging in balance, the admission and examination pattern of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) are showing an alternate way out.

It may be mentioned here that the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) announced the first and second-year Intermediate results for the Intermediate Public Examination, March-2020 (IPE) on June 18. As per the Board's announcement 2, 88,383 candidates have passed the first-year intermediate examination out of 4, 80,555 students appeared for the same. Nearly, 1, 92,172 students of the first intermediate examinations were filed.

Similarly, 2, 83,462 students have passed in the second-year Intermediate examination against 4,11,631 appeared and 1,28,169 candidates were declared failed.

The TSBIE had initially wanted to announce the Intermediate Advanced Supplementary Examinations (IASE) on June 18. However, following the increasing number of Covid-19 cases the Board has left the decision on conducting the IASE to the State government.

Against this backdrop, the pattern followed by the ICSI and ICAI provides some solution. The two institutes admit students but stipulate passing a foundation course to take an intermediate level examination of the Chartered Accountant and Company Secretary courses.

When contacted a former Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University said, that allowing everyone may not be feasible. But, those who were failed in two or three papers could be promoted and allowed to take admission into the undergraduate courses.

Provided, they should complete the failed papers before giving their first-year degree examinations. Or, qualify in a bridge course in the papers in which they have failed in the intermediate level before attending their first-year degree examinations.

The students could also be given an option to complete the bridge course opting to attend online examination through Swayam.

This would help a student not to lose an academic year at a time there is no possibility of holding examinations during the current crisis.
