Telangana: Civic bosses to zero in on dilapidated houses to raze

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to make the municipal Chairman and Municipal Commissioners responsible for any incident of dilapidated houses getting collapsed because of the rains.

Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday had a review meeting on municipalities under Nalgonda municipality on the requests of the district MLAs here on Thursday. The minister gave instructions to the municipal commissioners to identify the dilapidated houses in their municipalities in wake of the ensuing rainy season.

"Identify and demolish all the houses which are in dilapidated conditions in towns as the rainy season will be starting now. If there are any accidents in these places especially in the case of dilapidated houses, the concerned chairperson and municipal commissioner would be held responsible," said Rama Rao.

The minister would be visiting Nalgonda district on June 29 to take note of the development works in various municipalities. He assured the officials total support for taking the district forward on the development front. The minister asked officials to give priority to the basic needs of the people like drinking water, sanitation, roads etc.

The minister asked the officials to ensure the rules of the new Municipal Act are strictly implemented. He recalled that the government was providing funds to the local bodies like never before and asked the officials to utilise these funds for bringing changes in the towns.

He assured the officials to provide funds for the completion of underground drainage works in Nalgonda and Miryalguda towns. He also assured to examine providing Swachh autos based on the needs of the ULBs. The officials were instructed to take up construction of toilets and bus bays in the towns immediately.
