Telangana Corporate hospitals refuse to follow government rate for Covid cure

Hyderabad: Allegations are doing rounds that corporate hospitals are quoting sky high charges for corona treatment despite the government giving a rate card for treatment in private healthcare providers.

The wife of an RTC employee was admitted with respiratory issues in a corporate hospital in Secunderabad on June 13 and her test report came out negative on June 16.

According to her son, the hospital told them that she would require ventilation support and the treatment would cost Rs one lakh per day.

When asked about government rate card for Covid treatment, the hospital reportedly told them in no uncertain terms that they would have to pay as per Rs one lakh per day tariff or else they have to shift her to Gandhi hospital.

The patient's son said that they have already paid Rs 3 lakh so far and it would be very difficult for the family to further fund mother's treatment if she continues on ventilator.

Meanwhile, U Jagan, who floated an organisation called Telangana Private Hospitals Public Problems Solution Association, said that it came to his notice that some hospitals were refusing to admit some patients who were demanding treatment under the new rate card.

Meanwhile, private hospitals association members who were expected to meet Health Minister Eatala Rajender as they were not happy with the government fixed "low rate card" for hospitalisation, had to wait for two more days. As Health Minister Eatala Rajender also attended the PMs meet with CMs along with CM K Chandrashekar Rao, the meeting could not take place.
