Telangana farmers should emulate spirit of Maharashtra farmers, says Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy
Hyderabad: State Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy asked farmers in Telangana to unite, emulating the spirit of their counterparts in Maharashtra.
The Minister said this after visiting the power generation unit at the Madhucon Sugars along with Member of Parliament Nama Nageswara Rao at Rajeswarapuram in Khammam district on Sunday. He asked the farmers in the State to form into cooperative societies and run the sugar factories and engage in power generation.
He said about 25,000 farmers in Maharashtra have formed into cooperative societies and are successfully running 203 the sugar factories. He stressed on the production of sugar, molasses, spirit and by-products and the main objective of the Rythu Bandhu Samitis (RBS) is to unite farmers.
Niranjan Reddy said that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has formed the RBS with a foresight. Taking advantage of this, the Minister asked the farmers to first focus on the cultivation of sugarcane and try to establish the sugar crushing units. Besides the private sugar factories, farmers should start farmers' cooperative sugar mills in the State, he said.
