Hyderabad: The first plasma therapy treated patient in Telangana has expressed his desire to donate his blood in the coming weeks so that other critical patients could get the plasma treatment which proved to be life saviour in his case.

However, his was discharged a week ago and to be consider for plasma donor he would have to wait for 4 weeks according to treatment guidelines.

Vamshi Krishna (44) old private employee from Alwal, was given plasma treatment by Gandhi doctors after ICMR, New Delhi examined his case and gave nod. Vamshi Krishna who was tested Covid positive on May 11 was kept on oxygen support due to severe breathing difficulties soon after he was admitted in Gandhi.

He was injected with plasma, two times, on May 14 and May 16 and his condition improved drastically in the following days. " There was a visible change and within a day or two after plasma therapy was given I could breathe better and oxygen support was also not kept throughout," he said while sharing his experience.

Ten members from Vamshi's family including his parents, his brother's family and his family tested positive and eight of them have recovered and were discharged already. His mother is on oxygen support in Gandhi and father is recovering well in the hospital.

Initially Vamshi had his doubts on plasma therapy as he was the first case to undergo it in Telangana. However, counselling by Superintendent Dr Raja Rao and his team and advice of his family doctors and well wishers gave him courage to undergo it. Once he showed signs of recovery, Gandhi doctors also took his help to counsel other critical care patients who were shortlisted for plasma therapy.

" Two other patients who were on oxygen support became confident after seeing plasma results on me and they gave their nod for the therapy," I want to reciprocate the gesture so that some other needed patient could get benefitted," Vamshi said. Vamshi's niece (22) who recovered from Covid has also come forward to donate blood for plasma apart from him.
