Telangana government green signal for online registration of BS 4 vehicles
Hyderabad: With lockdown in the state and the deadline of the Supreme Court to complete the registration of BS 4 model vehicles by March 31 fast approaching, the Telangana government has decided to provide online facility of registration of the old pending vehicles along with new registrations.
As per the Supreme Court orders only BS 6 model vehicles will be registered after April 1 and no old vehicle will be registered by the transport departments.
According to officials in the department, there were 2.6 lakh BS4 model (Bharat Stage 4) vehicles and many of the vehicle owners had booked for registration.
The transport commissioner MRM Rao had directed the officials to complete the pending registrations by March 20 but there are many vehicles still awaiting registration.
However, state government has ordered for lock down in the State till March 31, which makes it difficult for the vehicle owners to come to the RTA offices.
When asked, the joint transport commissioner C Ramesh told the Hans India that the vehicle owners need not come to RTA offices as they can avail the facility online.
The transport department has specified in a notice on its website asking the vehicle owners not to physically visit the RTA offices after applying for registration. Their vehicles will be deemed to have registered if they complete the online process, said the official.
However, the vehicle owners would have to present physically along with their vehicle and documents on a later date whenever the department asks then to come to the office.
The official said that the department would provide registrations number online after completion of payment of taxes, insurance and other fees. The vehicle owners have also been asked to check the website for updates from time to time.
