Telangana Government sought to explain steps taken to provide relief to farmers

Hyderabad: The division bench headed by Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Revenue, Home and the Principal Secretary and Commissioner Agriculture department, directing them to respond to the notices within three weeks duly explaining the steps taken by the State government to pay compensation to the farmers whose crops were washed away or destroyed due to recent rains and further inform as to whether it had notified any input subsidy and whether the farmers have been given the benefit of claiming insurance.

The bench was hearing a plea filed by V Kiran Kumar and two others, aggrieved by the action of the State government in not taking steps to enumerate and assess the extensive crop damage that occurred across Telangana during the months of September and October.

The petitioners sought a direction to the government to pay compensation to all the farmers whose farm yield was damaged by notifying input subsidy and also extend crop insurance scheme 2020-2021 to the farmers. The matter has been adjourned for three weeks.
