Telangana govt. accords permission to sell toddy
The Telangana government on Wednesday granted permission for toddy tapping in all the districts. According to the statement, the toddy tappers can also sell the toddy. But they have to make sure of following physical distance and maintaining hygiene.
The permission is accorded to all the district except those in containment zones. Speaking on the government's move, Minister for Prohibition and Excise, V Srinivas Goud said that toddy shops in the containment zones will be closed till further orders. He said that the toddy tapping and toddy business community comprises of 40 lakh people and they are suffered due to the lockdown. Hence the government is making efforts to help the toddy tappers in the state.
The government has plans to plant around 100 saplings during the monsoon under the Haritha Haram and also setting up of stalls near the tank bund to sell the non-alcoholic toddy-based drink. Citing the police harassment on tappers, the minister asked the police to maintain restraint as the government has permitted toddy tapping.
