Telangana had 34 % excess rainfall in June compared to normal annual rainfall

Hyderabad: The State received rainfall of 172.8 mm against 129.2 mm of normal rainfall up to 30 June. It ranged from 106.4 mm (Nalgonda Dist) to 261.3 mm (Peddapally). This was 34 per cent more during this period in the State as compared to normal annual rainfall up to June 2020.

According to Groundwater department which monitored water levels during June 2020 through 965 piezometers (monitoring stations) covering 589 mandals from 33 districts of Telangana State, 26 districts received excess rainfall than normal rainfall (+23 per cent to 148 per cent) and two districts Adilabad and Nirmal received deficit rainfall (-31 per cent).

Groundwater level improves Average groundwater level in the State during the month was 10.75 meters below ground level (m bgl) and it varies from 5.34 m bgl (Wanaparthy) to 22.24 m bgl (Medak). A net rise in groundwater level of 3.65 m is observed during June 2020 as compared to June 2019 and the rise is observed in all districts except in Nalgonda where negligible fall of 0.15 m is observed. A minimum rise of 1.04 m is observed in Bhadradri and maximum rise of 7.48 m in Siricilla district. A net average rise in groundwater levels of 0.53 m is observed during June 2020 as compared to previous month. Water levels during month of June when compared with decadal average of June (2010-2019) levels, it is observed that, out of 589 mandals, rise in the range of 0.01-13.90 m in 449 (76 per cent) mandals and fall in the range 0.02-11.45 m is observed in 140 (24 per cent) mandals.
