The Telangana High Court on Monday questioned the government the rationale behind the pension cut in the state. It asked whether in the constituency or law or any of the Supreme Court verdicts state about the pension cut and termed the government's move is against the law.

The bench comprising of Chief Justice RS Chauhan and Justice Vijayasen Reddy was dealing with public interest litigation.

Meanwhile, the government counsel said that they reduced the cut from 50 per cent to 25 per cent after the court's intervention. When the court asked about the repaying of 25 per cent of pension, the counsel sought time till July 2 to discuss with the government.

The advocate general also said that due to the economic situation, the central government also left the GST bills unpaid. However, the court clarified that unless there is an announcement of financial emergency, no cut in the pensions should be made. The matter was adjourned to June 17.
