Telangana High Court appoints Advocate Commissioner to inquire into migrant workers plight
The High Court on Friday appointed Advocate Pawan Kumar as Advocate Commissioner to find out whether any migrant workers are stranded at Medchal or Not. Further, it was also to find out their conditions, the facilities being extended to them by the government, their destination where they would like to migrate to. Moreover, the HC also wanted to know if any arrangements are being made by the government to provide bus/train transportation to them, so that the migrant workers can reach their villages, the High Court Bench opined.
The High Court Bench comprising Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B.Vijaysen Reddy heard a public interest litigation through video conference on Friday, filed by social worker Prof. Rama Shankarnarayan Melkote that migrant workers in Medchal highway road are facing much hardship to go to their native places in other states.
Advocate General B.S. Prasad informed the Court that there are currently no migrant workers and they have been relocated. Petitioner counsel Vasudha Nagaraju alleged that there are still hundreds of migrant workers in Medchal Highway Road facing hardship.
The High Court appointed Advocate Pawan Kumar as Advocate Commissioner and directed to submit the report by June 1. The case has been adjourned to June 2.
