Telangana High Court asks government to submit detailed report on condition of weavers in State

The High Court Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy was hearing the public interest litigation seeking direction to the State government to come to the rescue and aid of weavers who are facing much hardship during this pandemic lockdown.

The HC Bench directed Advocate General Banda Shivananda Prasad to inform the court by way of a detailed report on the number of weavers functioning in the State, where they are staying, number of cooperative societies protecting their interest and welfare, the scheme, if any, floated by the State government to look after the financial interests of the weavers, assistance provided by the State government to the weaver community during this lockdown period.

The petitioner counsel M.Rangaiah informed the Bench that large amounts of finished products are lying with the weaver community, which is neither being lifted by the cooperative societies nor by the State government. The amounts that the State government is willing to set aside for the benefit of weavers in the State, to be paid to the weaver's community as they are badly hit during this lockdown period, said the petitioner counsel. The Bench directed the Advocate General to inform the court whether the State government would consider paying a certain amount to the weavers June 10. The case has been adjourned June 12.
