Hyderabad: BJP Telangana chief Dr K Laxman said his party's State unit will take the responsibility to convince the Centre to give its nod for the 9.8 per cent reservations for the STs in Telangana.

Speaking at a function organised in the party State headquarters marking the occasion of the 281st birth anniversary of Sant Sri Sevalal Maharaj here on Saturday, he said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had misled the people of the State on the issue.

He stated the TRS chief had promised to provide 12 per cent reservation for Muslims in the State, despite knowing full well that such attempt to provide religious-based reservations is unconstitutional. Besides, the State government could pass a resolution with a 9.8 per cent quota for the Scheduled Tribes in the State on par with their population.

"The Centre might have given its nod had the TRS government sent a resolution for the ST reservation. But, the TRS chief had linked it to the Muslim reservation resulting in stalling the reservations due to the STs in the State," he mentioned.

Recalling the services of Sant Sri Sevalal Maharaj, Laxman said the non-violence, spiritual messages of the spiritual leader continue to inspire the future generation. The Sevalal Maharaj initiative to preserve the culture, language and fighting against the religious conversions are his notable contributions, he explained.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy after paying floral tributes to Sant Sevalal said that his teaching would continue to guide the generations to come. Former Minister Motkupalli Narasimhulu, MLC N Ramchander Rao, party ST Morcha leader Chintha Samba Murthy, ST Morcha State president Sanavath B Naik and other leaders spoke on the occasion.
