Telangana taking measures to address education issues: Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan

Hyderabad: State Governor, Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said concerted efforts have been initiated to strengthen the education system in Telangana with a motto of imparting education with "Enjoy, Educate and Employ". The Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the State Universities, while addressing the media via a video conference here on Friday, assured parents and students to be confident, "as steps are being taken to address their concerns regarding their education in the post-Covid situation."

She said that government universities have their place of pride by improving the standards, notwithstanding the presence of the private universities.

Paying tributes to the frontline worries of the Covid and Telangana people for courageously facing the Covid, she lauded the efforts of the CCMB for culturing the virus, as it would be the first step in finding medicine or coming up with a vaccine. Also, she appreciated the University of Hyderabad for getting the endorsement of the PM Research Fellowship, and the steps taken by the Centre and the State governments in containing the spread of the Covid. Dr Tamilsai said that efforts are on to move forward in the post-Covid scenario to strengthen the education in the State for the benefit of the students. As part of this, being a chancellor, she said a connect the chancellor programme was launched. For this, 63,030 students have sent their entires penning their ideas in English, Hindi, Telugu and Urdu languages. The three winners of the programme would be presented prizes at a function to be held on June 2, on the occasion of Telangana formation day, she said.

The Governor said on the occasion of the State formation day, the fruit-bearing tree plantation would be taken up in the premises of Raj Bhavan to emulate the spirit of Green Telangana. Similarly, a Goushala will be established to set an example for the village economy of the State. The Chancellor said that she had called meetings with the vice-chancellors and the registrars to know the issues faced by the State universities. Efforts are on to diagnose the problems being faced by the universities and to take up the same in a constructive manner with the State government to resolve the same and to improve the education system, she said.

Among the contraints reported to her, the chancellor said low attendence of students, infrastructure, faculty vacancies, research, review of syllabus are among the others which need to be addressed. Also, steps have been taken to ensure compliance of COVID norms like social distancing on reopening of colleges, she said.
