Hyderabad: The AICC which is embroiled in an unending exercise to finalise the name of the new PCC president has decided to defer the decision till the by election to the Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly by election was over.

The party fears that any announcement at this stage would lead to serious internal dissensions and what is considered to the be the Congress citadel would be lost.

Following the talks the former minister and senior Congress leader K Jana Reddy had with the AICC secretary in-charge of Telangana S S Bose on Tuesday, the party in charge, Manickam Tagore on Wednesday held a virtual conference with TPCC top leaders including Uttam Kumar Reddy, Bhatti Vikramarka and working president Revanth Reddy. All of them are said to have supported the suggestion of Jana Reddy that the announcement be deferred.

The TPCC leaders are said to have exuded confidence that they were certain to win the Nagarjuna Sagar by elections and hence it would be better if the announcement of the new TPCC president was deferred.

Following this, Tagore is likely to submit a report to AICC interim president Sonia Gandhi on the issue either late tonight or on Thursday morning.
