Telangana: Woman delivers baby boy weighing 5.5 kg in Bhadradri

A woman from Mulugu district gave birth to a boy weighing 5.5 kg at Jeevan hospital in Bhadrachalam.

A woman from Mulugu district gave birth to a boy weighing 5.5 kg at Jeevan hospital in Bhadrachalam. Getting into details, Sandhya, a native of Venkatapuram of Mulugu district was admitted to Jeevan hospital on church road in Bhadrachalam and delivered the baby through caesarean section.

The baby boy is said to be the second son of a couple, Batti Ramesh and Sandhya. Both mother and baby are stated to be good health, said Dr Challagulla Spandana.

The baby's birth weight is considered as second record in the state after a boy born with weight 6 kg at Niloufer hospital in Hyderabad. Speaking on the baby's birth, the doctor said the baby weighing 5.5 kg is rare occurrence. The average birth weight of the babies is around 3.5 kg. However, the birth weight between 2.5 kg and 4.5 kg is also considered to be normal.

The highest birth weight of baby is 9.97 kg who was born in Canada in 1897. There were also records of the babies with birth weight ranging from 7.2 to 8.6 kg in various parts of the world.
