Temporary bridge caved in due to floodwaters near Pedda Devada village on Wednesday night

Kamareddy: A temporary bridge near Pedda Devada village in Bichkunda mandal in Jukkal constituency caved in due to flood waters on Wednesday night after the heavy rainfall. Traffic was severely disrupted on the route, which is crucial to go to Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Accidents were avoided as the police barred vehicular traffic on the temporary bridge during nights. Traffic between Bichkunda and Banswada mandals was stopped.

A temporary bridge was constructed due to the delay in constructing a bridge connecting Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana States was delayed.

Proposals for the bridge construction were made in 2016 at a cost of Rs 5.33 crore. The then Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao laid foundation stone and a temporary bridge was built. But the contractor didn't take up any construction work for about three years. If anyone question the contractors about the delay, they replied they couldn't take up the works as the bills are pending.

Hundreds of buses and thousands of National Permit lorries pass through this route. Now with the temporary bridge getting washed away, traffic has been diverted over Santapur and other villages.
