Three tribal women lawmakers distribute Bathukamma saris

Mulugu: Satyavathi Rathod on her first visit to Medaram, the abode of Sammakka Saralamma deities, after she was sworn in as Women and Children Welfare Minister offered prayers to tribal Goddesses on Monday. The tribal priests and locals gave traditional welcome to the Minister and Mahabubabad MP Maloth Kavitha on the occasion.

Later, Satyavathi participated in the Bathukamma sari distribution organised in Mulugu. Sharing the dais with Mulugu MLA Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka and Mahabubabad MP Maloth Kavitha at the distribution of Bathukamma saris, she felt nostalgic. Satyavathi recalled that she along with Seethakka and Kavitha represented Dornakal, Mulugu and Mahabubabad Assembly constituencies respectively between 2009 and 2014.

She said that tribal university in Mulugu will get underway soon. "A comprehensive action plan will be prepared for the development of Medaram ahead 2020 biennial jatara (fair) during my next visit after 10 days," she said.

The Minister said that government was distributing 1.06 lakh saris worth around Rs 3.50 crore ahead of Bathukamma. Earlier, Satyavathi and Kavitha offered prayers to the tribal deities – Sammakka, Saralamm, Pagididda Raju and Govinda Raju. District Collector C Narayana Reddy, Superintendent of Police Sangram Singh, Former Minister Azmeera Chandulal, former MP A Seetharam Naik and ZP chairman Kusuma Jagadish were among others present.
