TLSA chips in to save lakes in city

Hyderabad: Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TLSA) on Saturday hastened the official process to monitor the progress of the works taken up by the different civic bodies in the conservation of lakes and development of Musi river in Greater Hyderabad limits.

The authority held a meeting with the stakeholders mainly Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), HMDA, Pollution Board , Musi Riverfront Development Board and the top officials of Hyderabad, Rangareddy , Medchal, Malkajgiri and Sangareddy district here on Saturday. The GHMC officials informed the authority that one STP (Sewerage Treatment Plant) will be set up and assured to complete it within three months.

The Musi board officials had promised to file a detailed report within three months with regard to the ground reality of the existence of Musi river. The authority Member-Secretary A Santhosh Reddy said that the pollution board also assured to furnish the report with regard to the stages of cases filed by them and the mechanism work to control the pollution in the city.

The NGRI officials suggested the constitution of Lake Development Board which would serve the purpose of management and preservation of lakes. All the officials of various departments have also assured to work on the issue of lake protection and come with ground reality in the next meeting.

The authority has taken up the task of conservation of Musi river and other lakes in and around the city as it has concern over the environment and ecology of the fast growing Hyderabad city, the Secretary said .
