Hyderabad: State Transport Department would start registration of vehicles at showroom dealers soon as the officials are in process of finalising the software for fool-proof mechanism before it gets implemented.

The Transport Department had proposed to start the registration of vehicles at the showroom. The idea was to put an end to the corrupt practices and involvement of agents and brokers at the RTA offices. However, the officials said that the process would start only after a fool proof mechanism is in place in the RTA offices.

Presently, when a vehicle is purchased, the vehicle owner is given a temporary number from the showroom. The vehicle owner should go for the permanent registration number visiting the concerned RTA office.

The RTA authority would inspect the vehicle and issue certificate of registration once it clears all the inspections. Here, the vehicle owners shell out additional money to the broker for getting the work done.

To avoid this, the department is now contemplating to shift the process to the showroom, and this would benefit the motorist as there would be no involvement of middlemen, said a senior official in the department.

The official said that the AMVI/MVI (motor vehicle inspector) would examine the documents, invoices, form 21 and 22, engine and chassis number by visiting the showroom itself. The vehicle owners would have to go through the photograph and digital signature in showroom. The registration number would be granted by the concerned RTA offices, said the official.

The officials have proposed to start the service on trial basis in RTA offices like Khairatabad, Mehdipatnam, Bandlaguda, Moosarambagh and Trimulgherry offices.

This system is already in practice at Andhra Pradesh and other States like Delhi, Ahmedabad in Gujrat, Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. The officials have noticed malpractices by some of the dealers in Andhra Pradesh and hence they are taking extra care before implementing the system.

"There are 150 dealers in the city, and we want to see how the system would function. Once the software gets ready, it will be sent to the government for approval and then it will be implemented," said the official.
