The classes are being run at 10 schools across the two districts. The official also informed that the classes are being run to equip the students with communicative English skills.

The classes are being run separately for boys and girls with an intake of around 100 students at each centre.

"Most often it is seen students, both tribal and non-tribal, from rural pockets lack English language skills due to which they face difficulty in their studies when they go to intermediate or others.

The spoken English classes will help them express better and help them excel in higher studies.

The students are also taught to play chess to improve their mind power and are given advanced math tips that help them do well in Intermediate or other studies," the PO added.

In addition to that, the students made to take part in skits and mono acts in English to test their skills, Gautham informed.

The students are encouraged to interact with each other in English and to teach what they have learnt to their fellow students in order to help them overcome stage fear.

Similarly, the students are also trained in yoga and physical exercises to maintain good health.

The ITDA PO informed that they planned to conduct spoken English classes throughout the year from the next academic year in view of the importance of English skills in academics.

He said after obtaining permission from the Commissioner, Tribal Welfare they conducted a special recruitment drive to hire teachers to teach the students.

"The efforts are paid off as the students are easily understanding the subject and doing well," the PO added.

"The spoken English classes are really beneficial for us. I am now confident of speaking in English and I wish the classes continue in future as well," said H Bindu, a student attending the classes at Bhadrachalam.

Another student, K Sunitha said, "I am from a tribal village and interested to learn the English language.

However, there was no one to teach the language to me. But the summer learning course here is very useful and I am thankful to ITDA for conducting the language classes."
