TRS, Cong workers exchange blows in Kodad, Mattampally
Kodad/Mattampally (Suryapet): The final phase of Parishad polls which were held on Tuesday were marred by clashes between the workers of the Congress party and the supporters of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi in Kodad and Mattampally mandals of Suryapet district.
Tension prevailed at Ameenabad village of Ananthagiri mandal of Kodad constituency in the district during the polling when both the Congress and the TRS supporters clashed at the polling booth.
The two groups engaged in fistfights besides pelting stones at each other. A few members suffered critical injuries in the clash.
After receiving information, the local police rushed to the spot and resorted to lathicharge on the crowd to disperse them. Former MLA of Kodad Padmavathi called on the injured who were undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Expressing their angst, party workers of the Congress staged a sit in on the road and demanded justice. The protesters withdrew their protest after police assured to take stringent action against the persons responsible.
Similarly, the TRS and the Congress supporters engaged in slugfest at Raghunathapalem village in Mattampally mandal of Huzurnagar constituency when both the groups were engaging in campaigning violating the model code of conduct. Local police rushed to the spot and caned the mob and dispersed them. Later, under tight police security, polling was carried out peacefully till the evening.
