Karimnagar: The government is trying to destroy the education sector by closing as many as 12,000 schools that across the State, alleged the Student Federation of India (SFI) district secretary Rajinikanth here on Thursday.

The SFI workers staged dharna in front of the District Education Office in Karimnagar. The police interrupted their dharna and arrested the leaders of SFI and sent them to the Police Training Centre. Addressing on the occasion, Rajinikanth alleged that with the closure of government schools, many students who belong to weaker sections will face a lot of problems and will not get proper education.

The government is trying to shift the schools five kilometers away from the villages. Is this the way the government is trying to provide free education from KG to PG for the poor students, he questioned?

Last year, the government tried to close 4,000 schools in the name of rationalisation and is not filling the vacant MEO posts which are lying vacant from the past so many year, he alleged.
