TS Congress: All eyes on AICC posts
Hyderabad: As the executive of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) is likely to be reshuffled in January, next year, the Telangana Congress leaders are hoping to get general secretary, Working Committee membership and secretary posts.
The leaders of the party were discussing the possible names for those posts. They have been expecting that this time Telangana may be given one CWC member, two general secretaries and four to five secretary posts.
They also expect that the appointment of new president to the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) would be taken up after the reshuffle of the AICC executive in January.
According to sources, there was no reshuffle of the AICC executive in the past five years. Though the Working Committee has been revamped after Rahul Gandhi's election as party president in 2017, the executive of the AICC was not changed.
As Sonia Gandhi has took over again and as there was a feeling among the leaders that there was a need to revamp the executive thus reshuffle has come to the fore again.
According to party leaders the reshuffle may be taken up after the end of the elections in Jharkhand. The new executive may be in place by end of January, next year.
The Telangana Congress leaders are expecting some higher posts, above the secretary level, in the new executive of the AICC. The TS Congress was not given any general secretary and CWC member posts in the previous revamp.
After the end of term of K Kesava Rao the CWC member post is eluding the Telangana Congress, sources said. Though it was expected that late S Jaipal Reddy would be given the post in the previous reshuffle of CWC, it did not happen.
Sources in the party said that this time Telangana may be given a post in CWC to accommodate leaders of the State. They have been expecting one of the former PCC presidents may get the post.
They are also expecting to get two general secretary posts. Two seniors of the party who are in the race of the TPCC president post may be given general secretary positions.
Elevation of these three leaders to the AICC level, the number of contenders for the TPCC president would come down and make it easy for the high command to pick up a name for that post.
Apart from this, the present secretaries may be dropped and leaders who owe loyalty to Sonia Gandhi may get them. At present, four leaders of the State are continuing in the secretary posts.
