TS Congress netas yearn for berths in AICC
Hyderabad: The Congress Working Committee is likely to meet in the next week and take up reshuffle of All India Congress Committee, raising the hopes among the Telangana State leaders to secure berths at the national level.
According to sources the Working Committee would meet on February 14 and in the meeting in all likelihood Rahul Gandhi may be asked to take up the AICC president post again.
Party senior leaders said that present Congress president Sonia Gandhi was ill and was unable to monitor regular activities of the party. The Working Committee may ask Rahul to relieve his mother from the responsibilities of party president.
The present session of the Parliament would be given a break from February 11 and by that time the election process of the Delhi state would be completed. This gives some time for the party national leaders to take up organisational issues.
If Rahul is made Congress president again, he may undertake All India Congress Committee reshuffle. He may revamp the national executive and appoint general secretaries and secretaries. This exercise may be completed by end of this month.
Few senior leaders of Telangana Congress have been hoping to get berths in the national executive of the Congress and they are eagerly waiting for the meeting of the Working Committee. Seniors like N Uttam Kumar Reddy, V Hanumantha Rao, Ponnala Laxmaiah, K Jana Reddy, and J Geetha Reddy are hoping to get posts in the AICC executive.
The State Congress leaders may be given general secretary posts. Sources in the party said that Uttam Kumar Reddy may be made general secretary of the AICC and he may be made incharge of few States. Along with him one more senior may be accommodated in the AICC executive.
Party leaders said that the reshuffle of the AICC was due for a long time and Rahul and Sonia Gandhi were firm to cleanse the party organisational structure to give new shape to the party.
They said that the national leadership was keen to fight back and want to prepare the party organisation accordingly. By elevating State leaders to the national level it wants to gear up the organisation.
Telangana Congress leaders said that if Uttam is admitted into the AICC executive, new president would be appointed to the Pradesh Congress Committee. The AICC is yet to complete the change of leadership in Karnataka and Telangana.
