TS mulls new body for Inter exams

Hyderabad: In view of the muddle that was created in the announcement of Intermediate results which claimed the lives of 16 students, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday reviewed the situation with senior officers of the Education department and asked them to examine the feasibility of setting up an autonomous body for conducting the Inter first and second year examination from next academic year.

The meeting also decided to give relief to about 3.28 lakh Inter students who are reported to have failed by announcing re-verification and re-counting of the papers of all failed students free of cost and also appealed to the students not to commit suicides.

KCR is said to have expressed his ire over the failure of the private agency Globarena which has been entrusted the responsibility of the preparation of mark sheets and uploading the data of pass and failed students.

"The government is facing problems every time whenever Intermediate examinations and EAMCET are conducted. Examine the best practices in other states and countries and see if an autonomous body could be a better alternative so that this type of chaos can be avoided," the chief minister told the officials. He said in future examinations should be held in such a manner that there should be no complaint, he said.

KCR also enquired about the identification of outsourcing agencies and their capacity to process the data of the Intermediate students as well as declaration of the results. The officers briefed the CM that the identification was done based on tender process and the responsibility was entrusted to the company which quoted the lowest tender.

He instructed State Secretary (Education) B Janardhan Reddy to complete re-verification and re-counting process as early as possible and should be followed with conducting the advanced supplementary examinations so that the academic year is not lost. In view of the fact that the students will have to attend to NEET and JEE countrywide entrance tests, the CM wanted the advanced supplementary examinations results should be declared at the earliest.

KCR expressed anguish over the spate of suicides committed by the Inter students. He appealed the students to stand up in the life and be courageous. "If you commit suicide you will be leaving behind a lot of sorrow to the parents. I appeal to every student not to commit suicide," the CM said.
