TS records 62.69 per cent polling

Hyderabad: Telangana registered an overall polling percentage of 62.69 in the elections to 17 Lok Sabha constituencies held on Thursday. Along expected lines, a jump of two per cent was recorded from the preliminary figure of 60.5 per cent announced at 5 pm on Thursday.

The office of Telangana CEO released the final polling data on Friday evening. Over 14 per cent increase was recorded in polling figures of Nizamabad segment, while in Mahabubabad it was nearly 9 per cent.

The big jump in Nizamabad polling percentage was expected as polling was scheduled to close at 6 pm. In the initial report (taken until 5 pm on Thursday) the voting percentage was 54.2, while the final polling figure stood at 68.33 per cent.

In Mahabubabad, the final polling registered was 68.79 per cent as against 59.90 given on Thursday. In Secunderabad constituency the final polling recorded was 46.2 per cent, in Hyderabad it was 44.75 per cent and in Malkajgiri 49.4 per cent. All the three segments in the State capital region registered an increase of 5 to 7 per cent in final tally.

The other segments where a considerable jump in final polling was seen compared to Thursday's figures are Adilabad (5 per cent), Peddapalle (6 %), Nagarkurnool ( 5%), Bhongir (6 %), Khammam (7.3 %).

In Medak and Warangal segments, a three per cent jump was seen with polling figures registered were 71.7 percent and 63.65 per cent respectively.

The final polling percentage in other segments Karimnagar (69.45), Zaheerabad (69.67), Chevella (53.22), Mahbubnagar (65.39) was much the same as of initial figures.

Officials said the figure given at 9 am would be taken at 8 am from the Presiding Officer in the booth and the figure given at 11 am would be taken between 9.30 and 10 am.

Likewise, the 5 pm poll figure was the date taken anywhere between 3.30 and 4 pm. So slight increase in the final figure was common, they said.
