TSRTC puts brakes to buses to Maharashtra

Hyderabad: In the wake of growing coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, the TSRTC has decided to stop the bus services to the neighbouring State from Thursday.

The RTC operates more than 25 services to different places in Maharashtra and with many cases being reported in that state, the officials have decided to stop the services.

The Corporation operates buses to places like Amaravati, Nagpur, Karad, Shirdi, Mumbai, Udgir, Sholapur and other places. According to a senior official, there was severe impact of coronavirus in some parts of Maharashtra as the number of positive cases is on the rise.

"We have more than 25 services to the Maharashtra and the problem seems to be more at places like Amaravati, Nagpur and Karad hence the buses will be stopped to these places to avoid spread of virus," said the official.

The official said that the Shirdi-bound buses would also be stopped since the authorities have closed down the temple to control the virus.

Since the temple is closed, devotees would cancel their journey and it would not be feasible to run the buses. Already some services were cancelled during the last couple of days because of low patronage as only two or three passengers were boarding. These passengers were accommodated in other buses.

The officials are cautious at the nearby towns of Maharashtra like Udgir.

The Udgir buses are crowded as it is nearer to Hyderabad and goes through Karnataka and there is no impact of coronavirus in this district. The officials said that they would see if they can operate buses by taking precautionary measures.
