Turmeric farmers protest in Jagtial, take out padayatra to Nizamabad
Demanding turmeric board in district headquarters, turmeric farmers in Jagtial took out a rally from Old Busstand to IMA Bhavan on Monday.
The farmers also organized Rasta Roko on Jagtial-Karimnagar road which interrupted the traffic flow. However, the traffic police made the farmers withdrew the Rasta Roko to regulate the movement of vehicles.
Later, the farmers participated in the Prajavani programme and submitted a memorandum to the officials. The farmers then began padayatra from Jagtial to Armoor in Nizamabad district.
The rallies initiated after the farmers announced to take up a series of agitations in Nizamabad. As a part of it, the farmers began Raithu Athma Gourava Padayatra today. The farmers urged Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Aravind to set up turmeric board as promised during the elections time.
The farmers want a turmeric board and a minimum support price (MSP) for red jowar and turmeric.
