Two killed after being mowed down by car in Nizamabad

Two people were killed and another injured after being hit by a car here Kammarpally of Nizamabad district on Thursday night. The deceased were identified as Panuganti Srija and Lakshmi Aditya.

The victims, a native of Ichoda in Nirmal district had come to their relatives' house in Nizamabad a week ago. On Thursday, the three went to a grocery store and were returning home on foot when a car heading to Metpally rammed into them. Passersby informed the police who shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. He was identified as Devansh.

Meanwhile, the police launched a hunt to nab the car driver who fled from the scene after the accident. SI Asif registered a case and the investigation is underway. Srija, a techie based in Pune has lost his mother Vijaya in the road accident 15 years ago. Vijaya used to work as a lecturer in Ichoda junior college.

The police said that overspeeding of the vehicle resulted in the accident. The villagers also failed to notice the speeding car due to the power outage in the village, the police said.
