Two taxmen from AP, Telangana forced to retire for corruption charges
Two senior officials from the Income Tax Department were forced to retire before their superannuation for facing corruption charges. The officials K Jayaprakash, an assistant commissioner and V Appala Raju, additional commissioner were among 15 officials who were asked to resign.
K Jayaprakash was arrested for demanding a bribe when he was deputy commissioner at Karimanagar for doing official favour. The Central Bureau of Investigation laid a trap and caught him. They recovered the bribe amount of Rs 24.60 lakh out of a total bribe amount of Rs 25 lakh from the persons associated with Jayaprakash. He was found to be allegedly using the services of an auditor N Shiva Kumar, for collecting bribes on his behalf.
While the official V Appala Raju from Andhra Pradesh was arrested in disproportionate assets case. He acquired assets worth Rs 60 lakh.
Around 49 high-ranking officers including officers from CBDT were asked to resign by the CBDT.
