The incident created panic among the people residing in the nearby places as it remembered of the gas leak incident in the Vishakapatnam which claimed 12 lives and sickened many people.
The styrene gas that is released from the LG Polymers company forced around 800 people into hospital for treatment. The incident is also known to have killed 32 animals. The gas leak took place when the plant was reopened after being shut for weeks due to the lockdown. Poor maintenance of the chemical plant might have led to the gas leakage.
